Christmas Dried Orange Garland

This year especially, I felt the need to do some DIY with my Christmas decorating. A garland of dried oranges is easy, colourful and fragrant. This could tick all the boxes for a simple holiday craft activity.

Let me show you how to make some dried oranges garland and tree decorations.

Materials

  • 4 – 6 large Naval Oranges
  • Sharp Serrated Knife
  • 1 or 2 Cookie Sheets (depending on the sizes of the pans)
  • Parchment Paper
  • Cooling Rack
  • Fishing Wire / Ribbon or String

Instructions

  • Line cookie sheets with parchment paper
  • Slice oranges to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thicknesses and line in a single layer on the
    cookie sheets.
*Tip: Blot the orange slices with a paper towel to remove excess
moisture & speed up the drying process.
  • Place in oven and bake 3 – 4 + hours at 250 degrees F. or until oranges
    turn slightly brown and dry.
  • Let the oranges cool completely.
  • String the dried orange slices with the fishing line, add some ribbon or twine beside to poke through the flesh of the orange.

There are plenty of ways to use your creative side and make these personal. If thy love scent of cinnamon or cloves, you could lace those in between the slices as you string them.

This is such a delightful way to add colour and fragrance to your home. And to make it a bit humble, why not support your local markets by buying the oranges and cinnamon sticks from one of your local markets in central Lonsdale.
